How can powder get inside the tip and damage the parts?

Tips and recommendations on how to avoid cross-contamination when using dental appliances from the founder of the MDS company - Mykhailo Gorbachyk.

During dental procedures, it is important to consider the possibility of cross-contamination between different devices.
This can happen if a hygienic procedure was carried out at the installation before the therapeutic reception and the doctor carried out the procedure using a handiblaster or a soda jet. Regardless of which powder the doctor worked with, after finishing the hygiene, he releases the pedal, the pressure in the device decreases, almost to zero, and may even have a negative value inside the hose. High pressure remains in the soda jet chamber, and if we compare the opening of the nozzle and the hole through which air enters the soda jet, the nozzle opening will be much smaller than the hole through which air enters the soda jet. For this reason, the pressure in the chamber, the mixture of air and powder will, under certain conditions, go through the hose to the distribution unit of the installation.

After finishing work, the doctor accepts another patient, and accordingly, the mixture of air and powder in the distribution block will enter the first tip that will be used: a turbine tip or a micromotor.
So, this device can easily fail.

Under what conditions can a mixture of air and powder enter the installation?
1. Your soda jet is of low quality.
2. Over time, your non-return valve failed, which prevents the return flow of the mixture of air and powder into the installation.

What do we recommend to eliminate these problems?

  • Carefully check the condition of your equipment for any damage or leaks. Replacing or repairing damaged parts will help avoid negative consequences in the future.
  • Perform regular maintenance on your equipment to ensure its efficiency and safety. Cleaning, lubrication and replacement of worn parts will help keep the equipment in working condition.
  • Before each use, check the functionality of your appliances, including checking the system pressure and checking for any leaks.
  • Train your healthcare staff in the proper use and maintenance of the equipment, and provide them with instructions on safety and hygiene measures.

Following these tips will help you avoid cross-contamination and keep your dental practice running efficiently and safely.
